Challenge

As Outreach Coordinator for English Language Programs of the Department of State, I was tasked with leading the program’s first-ever exhibition at ISTELive + ASCD Annual Conference in 2025. Unlike TESOL, where the program was well known, this was uncharted territory in the EdTech space—requiring us to translate stakeholder priorities into a credible, engaging presence that could resonate with a new audience.

Action

I coordinated the exhibition from start to finish, translating stakeholder visions into both design and execution. At the booth, I developed wall graphics—including bold neon signage—and managed all vendor logistics, from booth setup and furnishings to internet, electricity, shipping, and lead retrieval systems. To deliver on a stakeholder request for interactivity, I implemented a virtual photo booth and branded postcards that encouraged visitor participation. I also designed and produced the ISTE Playground session, aligning with the vision for a hands-on, engaging experience. This included creating passport booklets, posters, and display materials while coordinating 20 alumni and international counterpart presenters. By grounding creative design in stakeholder goals and balancing it with precise logistics, I ensured the program’s first presence in the EdTech arena was professional, impactful, and memorable.

Impact

The initiative elevated the visibility of the Virtual Educator Program, launched in 2022, and positioned it alongside its two long-standing sister programs with 30+ and 50+ years of history. For many Virtual Educators, ISTE was their first major platform to showcase their EdTech expertise, and the Playground session drew over 200 attendees—marking a successful debut that expanded the program’s reach and credibility beyond traditional TESOL audiences.

Supporting Materials

Below you’ll find examples of campaign collateral that moved from early Canva drafts into full professional production in Adobe InDesign and Illustrator.

ISTE Passport Booklet – Initially drafted in Canva, then fully adapted and built in Adobe InDesign with print-ready specs. The final result was professionally printed and distributed at the ISTE Expo, where attendees used it in real time to collect stamps and engage with the booth.

ISTE Booth Wall Design – Concepted in Canva, then transferred and finalized in Adobe Illustrator for large-scale print. The final 20 ft × 8 ft tension fabric wall became the booth’s central visual feature at ISTE, creating a strong presence in real time on the expo floor.
