Challenge
When Montoro & Associates Editorial Services partnered with SM Ediciones Puerto Rico to create the Revuela English Language Development (ELD) textbook series, the goal was ambitious: produce the first English curriculum of its kind rooted in Puerto Rican history and culture for private and public schools in Puerto Rico. Our challenge was to ensure the content not only taught English but also reflected the voices, stories, and identity of Puerto Rican students.
Action
I contributed across many layers of the content development. I wrote and edited 8 student texts—both fiction and nonfiction—alongside 18 grammar spreads and 19 teacher guides, carefully revising for historical and cultural accuracy. Beyond the texts themselves, I created a product presentation, trained the sales team to communicate its value, and even recorded a voiceover for a promotional video. This combination of content development, accuracy review, and marketing support helped the series move from manuscript to launch with coherence and impact.
Impact
The Revuela English ELD textbook series became a landmark project: the first Puerto Rican ELD series produced by SM Ediciones with focus on Puerto Rican culture and history. More than a set of textbooks, it gave students the tools to learn English while expressing their cultural identity in the global language.
